Just 2 Years!

Celebrating the 2nd Anniversary of Just Heathers!

I remember running the idea of “Just Heathers” past friends, and making the decision to get the domain name and set up the website. It all happened pretty quickly, and I am so glad I did.

I always feel like my ideas are a little bit weird, and I do not by any means follow the trends or fit in. Imposter syndrome is a beast I haven’t tamed and wrecks havoc on the regular.
“How cute!” is often the feedback I get about ideas I have and things I make… which sometimes irks me… But at the end of the day, if it brings me joy and doesn’t hurt anyone else then it’s all good.

Overall, I have absolutely LOVED having a place to collect things that I have made, and enjoyed!

Highlights:
Having conversations with people for the Not Just Heather’s Podcast! Thank you so much to everyone who shared their time with me to record! Season one was a whirlwind of incredible moments shared with awesome people.
Hearing from people who have read the blog, listened to the podcasts and other recordings and those that have enjoyed the photos! Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to reach out!
Having a simple space of my own on the internet. The freedom to share what I want and how I want to is liberating.

Lowlights:
I’ve failed too!
I have pretty high expectations for myself, and not meeting those expectations and commitments has been hard to deal with. It feels messy, disappointing and stresses me out.

Lessons Learned:
One thing I have worked through is setting boundaries. I can do anything, but not everything all at once.
Good things take time and resources.
I’ve been working on managing expectations. The key is to honour my time, energy and wellbeing, and respect those of others.
Part of this learning has come about through my failures and through my discussions around and exploration of the theme of “Creative Islands”. Also through having an actual support network of people who understand and generously make themselves available.

Goals:
To develop some integrations – for example to share IG posts
To continue exploring and enjoying my interests, making new connections through those experiences and sharing just a few of them along the way.

Until next time,
Heather x
